Resume

Walter Dick was born on 23 July 1950 in Frauenfeld (TG).

He spent the first 5 years of his life in Lützelflüh in the canton of Bern, and the rest of his childhood in the municipality of Schocherswil (TG). From there he attended the schools in Amriswil, about 5 km away.

During his time at school in the upper school, he produced his first ink pen drawings. At the time Walter Dick started his apprenticeship as a cheesemaker, he devoted his free time intensively to drawing. It was like a second job for him, in which he invested about 20 hours a week.

In 1973 he married Beatrice Burger. Their first-born daughter Christine was not long in coming. It was an eventful year in which he was also able to present his first exhibition at J.U. Steiger in Flawil.

Two years later, son Markus was born. For the young family and with the aim of turning his hobby into a profession, Walter Dick built a studio house in Tufertschwil (in Toggenburg) together with his wife Beatrice. In 1979 and 1981, the two children Benjamin and Sarah also enlivened the new home.

At the beginning of the 1980s the artist developed and refined his techniques, e.g. the elaborate colour etching. Walter and Beatrice Dick set up their own print studio in the house in 1983.

In 2013, the artist and his wife left their home in Tufertschwil after 36 years. He finds a new home in Frauenfeld. The surroundings on the Murg river leave plenty of room for new inspirations.
